Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island (JCRCLI) Challenge: Given the changing demographics of Long Island, particularly the more than doubling of the Hispanic and Asian populations in the area over the past two decades, and building on existing efforts, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York in conjunction with UJA-Federation of New York, is seeking a seasoned community relations professional for the position of Director of Long Island Community Relations whose primary responsibilities will result in a long term, sustainable community relations agenda that is essential for the well-being of a vibrant Long Island Jewish community. Goal: To enhance and coordinate the community relations agenda on Long Island as an arm of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, in conjunction with the UJA-Federation of New York Long island office. The Director of the JCRCLI will be responsible for the following: *mobilizing the key players in the Jewish community (including network agencies, synagogues, day schools/yeshivot, national organizations with a LI presence) to strategically examine the changes in the Jewish and broader community on Long Island *creating the platform from which to develop the goals and objectives for a unified community relations agenda *identifying and promoting common community relations objectives among Jewish organizations on Long Island and with the broader community and developing a plan for their implementation *fostering and assisting in the development of inter group relations programming and activities to carry out key objectives of the plan Principal Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Convene Jewish communal leadership from a broad spectrum of the Long Island community to develop a mission, vision and agenda for community relations activities in the region. 2. Work with JCRC, UJA-Federation, and Long Island leadership to create a work plan and organizational structure for a community relations presence on Long Island. 3. Develop and provide staff support for a Long Island Community Relations Committee comprised of key area stakeholders on Long Island. 4. Work colaboratively withe broad infrastructure of Jewish communal institutions- both UJA-Federation affiliates and non affilates- on Long Island, including synagogues, Jewish day schools and yeshivot, Jewish community centers, Jewish educational institutions, geriatric centers, Hillels, as well as broader community instutions 5. Develop and maintain relationships with central figures within the general and Jewish communities 6. Monitor local, national and international events and bring relevant issues/ concerns to the attention of the varied constituencies 7. Ensure that israel and Israel Education, including briefings and advocacy, are part of the communal agenda 8. In conjunction with JCRC and UJA-Federation of New York Long Island Government Relations committee, develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with public officals. 9. Provide crisis management to the community, as needed 10. Integrate Long Island into metropolitan area community relations activities. Skill Set: . Master's degree or equivalent in appropriate field, including but not limited to the social sciences, law, public policy or communications . Knowledge of New York Jewish community and Israel . Knowledge of Long island highly desirable . Strong leadership and inter-personal skills . Strong communications skills . Strong interest in working in Jewish communal setting . Volunteer or professional communal experience . Ability to manage and balance multiple priorities Supervision: The Long island Community Relations Director will be located primarily in the UJA-Federation Long Island Office in Nassau County with a satellite office in Suffolk County, and will directly report to the CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York. Ongoing supervision to coordinate and integrate UJA-Federation's efforts will be provided by the Associate Director of UJA-Federation of New York-Long Island office.
